About this event
The exhibition features rare large chromolithographs of astronomical drawings created by French artist Étienne Trouvelot in the late 19th century, which were originally part of the Sproul Observatory Library collection. Also on display are lantern slides, glass negatives, and photographs of astronomical phenomena, expeditions, and scenes from Swarthmore taken by Swarthmore astronomy faculty in the early 20th century.
On Wednesday, November 1st at 4:30 pm at McCabe Library, Professor of Astronomy David Cohen will be hosting a Gallery Walk where he talks about the chromolithographs and other materials on display. We'll have a light box available for closer viewing. We'll also have some astronomy-themed snacks.
For more info, see the flyer and some introductory info about the prints. If you'd like to see what the chromolithographs look like, they are all online via the New York Public Library.
