What is this?
The Perseid meteor shower is caused by Earth's travel through the debris left behind by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The meteors appear to originate from a single area of sky, called the radiant. The radiant for the Perseid meteor shower is near the Double Cluster in the constellation Perseus. The greatest number of meteors will be seen from a dark sky site. The Perseids are actually visible as early as July 17th and as late as the 3rd week of August, although the peak will occur on the night of August 11/12.
