The DVAA has been invited to set up telescopes in partnership with Bucks-Mont Astronomical Association at the Temple University Ambler Campus in conjunction with Temple's Great American Campout.
Saturn will be visible in the southeast. We'll also have the brighter deep sky objects, including M13, M11 and the Double Cluster. The moon will not be in the evening sky.
You can also participate without a telescope by answering general questions about astronomy and the DVAA. Binoculars are welcome.
If you'd like to attend without a telescope, please park in the lot near the Ambler Learning Center and take campus walkways to the observing site.
When: Saturday night, September 21, 2024, 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm
Where: Temple University Ambler Campus - 580 Meetinghouse Rd, Ambler, PA 19002
Telescope Setup:
Try to have your scope set up by 8:00pm.
See attached campus map for the area marked with a red X. This is southeast of Bright Hall.
Enter the Ambler Campus from Meetinghouse Road via the Loop Drive.
Continue around the campus on Loop Drive for 0.6 miles.
There is a sign on the way for "Please - No vehicles beyond this point" which we can disregard for this event.
Turn right on the driveway at 0.6 miles having a sign on the right side, reading "Pinetum".
Continue on that driveway toward Bright Hall.
Vehicles should remain on the paved surface. Park along the north edge of the driveway with wheels about one foot onto the roadside grass. We need to leave room for emergency vehicles to pass just in case. Temple's Safety Office will have a person on hand to assist us.
Set up telescopes in the grass on the north side of the driveway and on the lawn below Bright Hall.
Please plan to arrive with your scope before 8:00 pm. Sunset will be at about 7pm.
Weather Go-No Go decision will be sent the day of the event.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Best,
