About this event
Detecting Gravitational Waves with LIGO
Amber L. Stuver, PhD Assistant Professor, Villanova University
Dr. Stuver is part of an international team that detected gravitational waves for the first time. Gravitational waves are very small changes in gravity that are created when the most massive objects in the universe undergo violent events, for example when two black holes or two neutron stars orbit into each other in a colossal collision. Dr. Stuver will discuss the recent collision of two neutron stars which was detected by the light and the gravitational waves produced by the collision.
